That's why we call it "Los Anchorage", baby... That-there airport is the busiest cargo airport in the USA (duck the Fed-Ex planes if you can), and the "lake" I ride by is the busiest float/ski plane base in the USA as well (so much for the peace and quiet of the Great White North). The "railroad" annoys me - it's the Alaska Railroad and they mostly haul tourists around. They blow the d@mn whistle at 6:50 AM and 10:00 PM everyday. Scares the

The "waterfront" is Knik Arm, a deadly, icy gray fjord of Cook Inlet - 39 foot tide swings (2nd only to the Bay of Fundy, I am told). It's either a lot of mud or a lot of water, depending on what time I happen to be there. But, it's home and I love it.
