I restored a 1968 MGB-GT back in the '70's. One day as I was driving it toward Agoura, CA I noticed a burning smell. I immediately pulled over and pulled the rear bench seat off that covered the two batteries. Smoke was pouring out. Fortunately, I caught it in time before it went up in flames.
My neighbor was not so lucky. He spent at least a year restoring a vintage Austin Healey. Then it caught fire and burned to the ground on an LA freeway. British electrical systems sucked.
