Was told from people at my bike shop that it works best if tilted up just a little. I found that they were correct. Flat was comfortable but left me chafing a little bit. Tilting up a smidge helped. It doesn't look as cool that way but it is more comfortable.
A slightly up tilted nose helps you get on top of the gear when you are on the rivet.
The slightly lower rear help you drop you heal and push over top of the gear when you are slid back there for power.
