Small Lipos are less than $20. But if you need 12Ah worth of 3s LiPos, you're looking at two of these at $49 each, so $98 or so, which is over double what the equivalent gel cell battery would cost.

I'm not saying that it's not worth the cost, but certainly they're only cheap if you need a small one.
