both the BMC urbanchallenge and Spot Acme have aluminum frames. i would imagine the weight difference between the two isn't that great.
the two bikes are pretty similarly speced, so perhaps a big part of the $500 price difference is the the fact that the BMC bike is a "BMC". Spot is a considerably less prestigious brand outside of the obscure little world of belt drive bicycles.
one thing i can't tell about the BMC urbanchallenge is how belt tension is achieved, is it sliding drops or an EBB? i know the Acme uses Spot's nifty sliding drops, and overall i feel that sliding drops are a better belt/IGH/disc brake solution than an EBB.
