I grew up thinking you needed a helmet for a motorcycle, but noone ever wore a helmet for a bicycle, that I ever saw, until I was well into my 20s. I can see the common sense of using a helmet for bicycles, and I kinda wish I used one, to feel/be safer, but the fact is, it just wasn't "learned" early enough in life to stick. I don't have any death wish, but I do feel like taking calculated risks is part of what makes life interesting. Sure, there are idiots in cars & such out there, who might take me out, but that's true wether I'm wearing a helmet or not. When it's my turn to die, I'll know it, and I don't think it does any good to worry about it. Just stay right with God, & he'll look out for you, "if" he sees fit. If not, that helmet's NOT going to save you.
