I've been doing a lot of riding at night lately. Sometimes in the Everglades. Need recommendations on a front light that can really light up the road. I don't just want to be seen, I wanna be able to see what's in front of me in total darkness.

You could look at something like a LED Lenser HP7 and a bike mount. Probably a little over your $50 budget but hopefully not too much.
I picked up an HP7 at Lowes / Home Depot (I forget which) for a whisker under $50 including batteries a couple of years back. The bike mount should be pretty cheap, maybe $10-15 or so.
The HP7 is pretty simple - it's got a high power mode and a low power mode and you can adjust it from a spotlight to a wider beam. I mostly use mine for hiking, mainly because I don't really need that much light on my bike at present.
