The original small ring that went with your big ring would have been 42t, and less round than your big ring, so perhaps that's why it was replaced with a round one.
Downshifting to a less-round ring can be very annoying at the higher cadences of fast riding, but upshifting to the rounder (only 3.5% variation) BioPace big ring might actually make the upshift from your round small ring seem easier.
So it shouldn't effect shifting too drastically ?
