I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum - I prefer wide. Sold my 70-200 f/4L IS and never looked back. If I could only have one lens, it'd be the 35 f/1.4L, though I'd survive with the 16-35 f/2.8L.
well, if I had a FF camera I'd probably do the same but I only like taking pictures of things that are moving.
Landscapes at 10 fps!
I picked up the 17-40 for landscape action because even on a 1.3 body, the 16-35 mk1 is awful once you get more than half way out of the center. f2.8 is still useful though.
