This is true, but a 46 X 11 or 46 X 12 is a bigger gear than the vast majority of people can spin on a road bike, and gears are easy to change if you don't have enough.

If you spin your legs at 100 rpm with a bike with 46X11 with 700 X 25C tires, you will be going almost 53 km/h. Thats durn fast!!!!1
