Apologies in advance for anything redundant. I just got here and am catching up.

I'm pretty green, especially when it comes to horizontal dropouts. What, in particular, don't you like about them?

36x18. The rear is easy to change, of course. Others have bought a single ring front crank with standard 32T ring a la MTB. Given the hills I want to try to ride up and down, I plan to go to a 22T front and keep the 18T on the rear. It'll spin out in a hurry on the flat, but i'd rather not push a 46 lb bike very much.

I have never bothered to go tubeless on my mtb, but to save ~3 lbs of rolling weight I might do it. Several people have also bought the Origin8 Devist8er $35 wire bead tire for significant weight savings at a low price.

mmm-hmmm. I am going to post a WTB on CL here. Also, several have been delivered to people with bad scratches, so I am wondering if they will get a lot of them returned to stores, such that I might scoop one of them for cheap.
