• A lightweight internal hub gear with about 8-15 equally spaced gear ratios. Even better if this was a continuous variable transmission with no distinct 'gears'.
• Add electronic shift actuation that gave you an automatic shift option based on power input, cadence, speed etc. I know some folks will spontaneously combust at the mention of this, but how many of us run a standard transmission on a car?

For the industry to be just adding another cog every 5 years to obsolete the previous generation of stuff is frankly pretty lame. We passed through the point of diminishing returns at 9 gears. Most of my bikes feature 2 x 7 gearing, which is more than enough unless I am doing loaded touring or competing in UCI crits.
