Incidentally, there are precious few riders who can make enough use of a 53 tooth chainwheel these days to justify the expense of a new crankset, given the predominance of 11 and 12 tooth cogs. On the other hand, if you are a time-trailer on a more classic bike with at least a 13 tooth small cog you may be an exception (53/13 at only 100 rpm is 33 mph).
If you're on the 11/12 you should also be on the 52/53 or you're cross chaining.
