I have ridden a mountain bike and a hybrid in the past.
the mountain bike may make a come back as a winter commuter. The hybrid was just a bad purchase, that bike does nothing well.

Road bike, it's older than I am and technically two sizes too big (I just barely fit on it but it's still comfortable) but it's just too fun not to ride.
Watch out for your knees.
