Pointing out that you were wrong about phones being "dependent" is useful to people because you are misleading them into thinking that phones can't be used for positioning without it. That's an important point. Not "nitpicking".
No one was actually talking about turning the assisted-stuff off, anyway (that's "nitpicking"!).
