The weather today was excellent for some wrenching, so I took the opportunity to have a look at this bike I bought a while back. It had caught my attention because of its size (mine) and the fact it was dubbed "Remy Course" (a rather famous name here). I was sure it wasn't a true Remy (if only because of the Dawes head badge), but it looked interesting enough and the price was reasonable, so into the boot it went.
Seller's picture:
Closer inspection revealed that it is indeed a Dawes.
But which model? What year? And what did it originally look like?
Here's what I found:
weight: 3.35 kg (fork + frame + headset)
seatpost: 26.8 mm
BB shell: English thread
DO's: Dawes
RD: Fuji Vx (1980)
FD: Compe-V (1976)
brake calipers: Weimann 500 (1975)
Crankset: SR Apex (1976)
Cinelli stem and bars and Shimano Exage brake levers certainly look to be a later addition.
I haven't found a serial number (yet). On the BB shell it says "AH52". There are also an X and an H there.
The closest match I've found so far is
this Mirage in the OTSG.
