I got double side Pedals (Shimano M324SPD) that I use with cleats SPD shoes, also I can use them with normal sneakers when I go around with my kids. For sure clipless pedals are way better and safer than old fashioned baskets.
I would say they are much better than platform pedals since your feets don't slip ever (no matter if you are soaking wet or full of mud)
