from the Website above:
"While you can rent bikes and surreys at many locations throughout the Walt Disney World resort, they are intended for use on specific resort paths, and guests are not encouraged to use these as a form of transportation to the parks...Each of these resorts have specially constructed paths for bikes and pedestrians that take riders on a scenic route around the resort area, but do not lead off resort property onto the Walt Disney World road system. These bike rentals are meant for leisure, not transportation.
Walt Disney World is not designed with cyclists in mind. The road system was constructed with the sole purpose of getting people in and out of the parks in vehicles. Remember, even though Walt Disney World is the size of San Francisco, Disney owns all that land, and the roads were constructed specifically as a Disney super highway, not as if they were roads in a regular city with a mix of cars, bikes and people.
There are no bike paths on the roads at Walt Disney World, and with thousands of buses and cars being routed to their destinations every day, it’s not a safe environment to cycle. Most of the drivers at Walt Disney World are more concerned with getting to Splash Mountain than watching the road for unexpected cyclists."
