I'm with the OP- I just don't get it.
Nor do I get why anyone [regardless of how much money they have] would pay $10,000 for a BICYCLE.
That's because people who ride a lot aren't just doing it for a little exercise and fresh air.
What the real mystery is why people think nothing of buying a car at an average price of over 30 grand when the median income in the US is only 50K. By the time you factor in maintenance, insurance, etc, they're really spending a lot. Meanwhile the people who are considered nuts are the ones who drop thousands they can actually afford on a bike.
Besides, a lot of the people who drop major coin on bikes actually spend less per mile on their hobby than those with cheaper rides.
