My rides with the old woman yeald better results than my solo training rides on the same route. How can that be you ask? I divide the route into intervals according to topo. Mostly shorter steep climbs and and few speed intervals. At the end of each interval I wait for her and I'm completely recovered to hit the next interval full out and finished it full red. I compare bike score results in Golden Cheetah which rewards intensity. We stop for lunch at 2/3 distance and then she drafts me home and I set the pace at a power level that she can hold. Works for me you just have to train them right.
