Hi,

I ride around the Grimsby area often, so I can make a suggestion.

I'm not familiar with the area(s) South of Smithville, so I can't suggest much there, but I can provide input on getting from accross the QEW and up Smithville. Also, in Lucille's directions, I think there may be a typo. In step 2, it says to turn right. I think it should say turn Left? Double check that to make sure.

There is nothing wrong with the route that Lucille suggested, but I can suggest a slight change that I would prefer to do. I would stay on the North side of the QEW until Mountainview Rd. (a very quiet, ie never seen a car on it, overpass) between Ontario St. and Bartlett Ave.

Once you're on Mountainview Rd and over the QEW, you can continue up the escarpment on Mountainview which will turn right and eventually lead you to a T-intersection with Thirty Rd. At that point, you'd turn Left onto Thirty road and be at step 3-4 on Lucille's instructions. The other option would be to cross the QEW at Mountainview and then turn right onto Thirty rd right after you cross the railway tracks shortly after going over the QEW. Either of those routes is nice.

Going up the escarpment on Mountainview is 3km at 3% and very straight except for the one right hand turn. It's consistently mild with one very short kick up about half way. Going up Thirty is 1.5km at 4.5%. Thirty has more turns which is nice. If you want the "easy" way up, go Mountainview, if you want some turns and like hills, go up Thirty.

Whichever route you choose, I hope you have a great ride.
