If you live in Foster City, there's a "trail" that starts in Coyote golf course, through Foster City down to the Oracle. It doesn't get any busier and flatter than that. But if you're talkin' 'bout road biking and being off the trail, then look West from where you live - San Bruno Hills. As the other guys said, Skyline and Canada Road. You can kick it up a bit from Canada and connect to Woodside to Kings Mountain. Maybe even Highway 35 to Old La Honda.
I live in the South Bay and I have my own little route of 40+ Miles from my house to Evergreen College connecting to San Felipe to Metcalf, then down to Monterey Rd to Capitol Expressway, up Yerba Buena to San Felipe then up on Aborn and down on Quimby, etc, etc, etc. Then we also have Mt Ham from either Qumby Road or from the base at Alum Rock, Highway 9, Uvas Rd in Gilroy, or our own little Canada Road South Bay style.
I've done that ride, it was good. Thanks for the other suggestions.
