noise in the cleat area

I bought a pair of dhb 2.0 mtb shoes (with full carbon fiber sole) from Wiggle. At first, the cleat plates wouldn't budge, so I had to force it free. Then, it wouldn't go all the way back, so I had to use a hammer and screw driver to drive it all the way back. Now, the cleats are on in the positions I want them, but with every step I walk, I get a clicking noise out of my left shoe, and a creaking noise from my right. This only happens with the cleats on. Is there a way to fix this, or can I call this a "fault" in the shoe, ship it back to the UK, and have them reimburse me for the shipping, and send me another pair?

Actually, I get the creaking noise on each shoe with every step regardless of whether the cleats are on or off.
