Just picked up a Nishiki Continental with a claimed date of 1983. The seller was the original owner and seemed very meticulous. However, he said it was old stock when he bought it. But the date jives with what I know about Nishikis, though I am surprised there is no chrome as most continentals I have seen had chrome.
