The shop I bought from couldn't believe I didn't want compact + 12-27, basically refused to even consider a swap. I got a good deal otherwise, but I won't be going back there.
I think compacts became the rage when a certain doped up Texan brought in "spinning". Although, spinning =/= going slower in a smaller gear, as many seem to believe?
