And I need to replace my damaged rear derailleur, regardless; one of the set-screw's housing snapped-off.
Can I use any derailleur (i.e. a Tiagra) or will this be a compatibility issue, too. I will leep my friction shifting.
All of these choices and associated compatibilities are driving me crazy.

Depending on the model, you may need to add those chainring spacers behind the small ring. No big deal, though.

The Tiagra RD should be fine.
