Thanks for the ebay tip, Vlaam4ever, hadn't occurred to me to look there, I don't think I'd buy a used bike or components, still very interesting to browse and learn much more about brands/prices (I'm quite new to this) especially for rims it seems like a good idea, at least to get a better sense as of what to expect, there seems to be quite an offering of those..

As for the road bike as a commuter, locally there are some days and afternoons -like today, for example- with heavy rains/street flooding, the occasional missing manhole cover or concrete crack by the side of the street, congested traffic, no elbows, speeding motorcycles, etc. I'm sure it's different for other people, but for me, I think jumping alongside the car lanes with a road bike under those conditions could prove kind of suicidal -well, at least without prior experience.


I'd like getting a roadie as a second bike (never have had one yet), and only then start trying it out under controlled conditions first, see how it would develop from there.
For now I'm guessing I need a reliable, sturdy and tough MTB commuter first
