That year and model was my first good bike. I thought I was buying a touring bike and later learned that it really wasn't. Sidepulls instead of cantis, lack of braze on fittings for racks and bags. It was a good enough bike, but it didn't become my favorite. I upgraded mine to bar end shifters (seen here) and later on with centerpull brakes which helped the stopping power.
