Such rims are manufactured to be true and stay that way for a long time at some expense of weight for strength, but they make it up by fewer spokes and better aerodynamics. If the rim was struck and plastically deformed then it puts undue stress on some spokes and requires too little on others to pull the rim back into shape, plus I think this set only has 20 - 24 spokes. But if this was due to spokes going loose, then you should be able to re-tension by tightening the nipples. Check spoke holes for cracks first to eliminate that as the cause for the "hop." Cracks in spoke holes might mean end of the rim as well.
The hop was caused by spokes going loose- no impacts. I'll have to check for cracks round the spoke holes. Thanks.
