I almost always carry a pair of pants where the legs zip on and off allowing them to be worn as shorts as well. Mine are made from newer high tech synthetic materials which are extremely light weight and they dry very quickly, a plus when they get wet or when you need to wash them as needed. I also try to keep as many of my bike riding clothes serviceable as off the bike clothes as well.
