This whole situation could have been avoided if everyone bought economical cars or took public transportion, OR (preferably) rode a bike.
It is obviously the car owner's fault as he was driving a nice car, which DaveIT thought invited a compliment. If the car was a 1988 Honda Civic rusted to the core, I am sure this never would have happened.
