Depends on the seatpost really. Measuring from bottom of seatpost to the max hight mark, that should give you a pretty good indication. Be aware that some seatposts has a greater base density, in which case cutting your seatpost may drastically reduce it's strength, hence such modifications are not allowed within UCI regulations, and your bike would technically not be race ready. In any event make sure to allow for future changes, as changing your setup (saddle, pedals, crank arms, and so on, or even your shoes or bibs, let alone losing or gaining some weight yourself) may require some minor adjustments either way.


Moreover, I'll bet you $1 that cutting the seatpost won't mean jack in terms of performance or riding experience. Fine tune and if necessary trim some weight off the engine, then cut the seatpost if you still need an edge on those "Hors Catégorie" climbs. Don't get me wrong. While not exactly a weight weenie myself, I still aim at not exceeding the 6.8kg UCI weight restrictions on any of my builds, but in my case I simply can't justify molesting a $200 seatpost for a 18g weight loss when I could easily lose twice that going for a shave and haircut.
