I ride recumbents...no full kit roadie rides a recumbent. Anyway, my pal Bill rides a TRICE trike from the UK, and he and I get together from time to time to ride Jupiter Island here in south Florida. Bill is a 'puppy' of a man, happy, eager to talk and fun to be around. Bill waves and says hello to everyone, where I usually nod and say a hello. We were sitting at an intersection when a carbon-fiber-go-faster in full kit was coming up on the adjoining street. Bill was waving hello, and being friendly, the fellow just ignored us and went zooming by. Bill looked at me wondering why? I told him, the go-faster had more invested in his WHEELS than we had in our entire bikes (and recumbents are expensive) and he was not going to wave back and be friendly, we were NOT real cyclists. Only place where I ride and see this behavior is out on the coasts, where the carbon-fiber-go-fasters tend to ride in groups of exclusiveness.
