My pedal did tear out under load. I'll try post a pic tonight. Note also I ride with 20mm extenders, and I'm pretty hefty (about 240#), so there's extra weight and leverage involved.

AFAIK there is just one co-op in San Diego, which operates very far from me. Oh and I heard of one at SDSU, which is also pretty far from me. I might be able to get out there in a couple weeks, but I've got a big group ride coming up this sat that I've been looking forward to for months! Fortunately I have some other options for the short term (swiping square taper cranks off another bike at home, borrowed crankset/octalink BB from a friend)

How does a coil insert work, geometrically? Does it sit between the stripped threads and provide new threads (offset by half a thread)? Does the existing hole have to be widened and deeper-threaded for the coil to have something to sit in, and have thickness, and provide pedal threads at the original diameter?
