This was a French model, and the catalog shows it with nutted brakes (check that out) and a Huret RD...if yours is an Avenir it
should have the Huret stop at '4 o'clock' on the dropout hanger, I would reckon, and probably a Huret branded dropout, too.
But, since we're talking Gitane, I could be totally off-base
