Bikes: too many bikes from 1967 10s (5x2)Frejus to a Sumitomo Ti/Chorus aluminum 10s (10x2), plus one non-susp mtn bike I use as my commuter

Don't ask me to explain why, but 29" wheels are actually smaller than 27". A 27" rim is 630mm in diameter, while a 29" rim, which is actually a 700c rim with an alias is 622mm in diameter. So the wheel will probably fit, unless you use one of the widest available tires, but you need to lower the brake shoes by 4mm, which will be the key issue.
