Maybe, but I've had plenty of Shimano FDs that were supplied with plastic diameter reduction adapters. They all worked fine. FD shims are not rocket science... And if they don't work you find out pretty quick.
You right about that. I had no idea that eladro's "adaptor" meant
shim. I can't imagine resorting to 3D printing to make a shim that could be cut from flat stock alum or, I guess plastic.
Most shops would probably give you a pair of 1/16"thk metal Shimano shims, they throw them out all the time.
