I was in a similar position in a sense. My options?

-2012 CAAD10 Ultegra $1800 (new)
-2012 Supersix Apex $1200 (new) - upgrade shifters to Red or wheelset
-2013 CAAD10 105 $1500 (new)
-2013 CAAD10 Rival $1700 (new)

I went with the first. It was the best bang for the buck. For an extra $24 you get almost everything else on your bike upgraded, instead of only upgrading the cranks and wheels. Not to say Rival is terrible, but for an extra $24, I'd spring for upgrading the overall bike.

I still wonder if I should have gone with the Supersix. I'm glad I didn't. Sure it would have been cool to have upgraded one part to the highest quality SRAM, but at the cost of bottom of the line components everywhere else? Not worth it. Especially with SRAM22 coming out now.

(Not to suggest Apex is bad)

I'm not a weight weenie either, but its fun trying to stay light.
Does the 16.1 lbs include pedals at all?

I think mine sitting ready to ride (excluding water bottles and saddle bag) is around 17.5. But then again everything is 100% stock. The only change was 2 25 gram water bottle cages. I'd love to get mine under 16 pounds. I am looking into a new wheelset. Also going to play around with various handlebars shapes to help comfort, and will ultimately shed some grams.

Not to sound like a weight weenie. I just find it fun trying to plan a build under certain weights and within certain budgets. I spent my finals week comparing cockpit, seatpost, and wheelset options to give me the best weight loss for my money.
