so i got the new carbon fiber fork installed on my bike yesterday. i'm very pleased with the upgrade, the new fork rides much, much nicer than the old fork. the different geometry of the new fork has also greatly enhanced the handling. it really is surprising to me how poorly designed the original fork was, especially considering this wasn't some cheapo dept. store bike, but rather a $1200 LBS bike. you'd think that bikes at that price point would come with a better fork, but maybe i'm also just really picky and have become spoiled by the carbon fork on my road bike.
whatever the case, this was an upgrade that was very much worth it to me. the all-in cost was $180, worth every single penny in my opinion. the only downside is that the bike went backwards ever so slightly in the aesthetic department, but the new fork rides so much better that i'm struggling to even care about that.
