I think you'll get a better reply if you started your own thread. That being said the concensus is to change only stuff that breaks. UGI (Upgrade-Itis) is easy to catch but sometimes when starting at a low-end bike you will end up spending far more to get a better bike by upgrading it in bits and pieces rather than just saving up and buying a better bike.

There is something to be said for the fun of UGI though so it's up to you to weigh the lower cost and delayed gratification of saving up for a better bike vs. upgrading in bits (and installments) but getting something better.
