I don't they shift as well as Suntour but yeah they do have a whopping wide range. I used a huret duopar on a transcontinental ride and it held up just fine.

Edit: I don't know how available they are but I really like the Suntour xc pro stuff mated to a good retro-friction shifter. That stuff looks good and works great in friction mode.
