Hmmm--the HB sites at San Clemente and San Onofre have been closed for years, and at least for five years at San Onofre, so don't take that sign as gospel.

And in Southern California, the rangers don't seem to have any sympathy for tourists when the sites are full, as they can often be. I talked to a fellow who had ridden 98 miles in 105 F heat, planned to stay at South Carlsbad SB per the "bible", and had to move on south another seven miles to San Elijo when the ranger let him know the HB site there was gone. When he arrived, he was by no means a "happy camper".
