I am rebuilding my old bike and will put a complete new drive train on it.
I am planning to install a Shimano Alfine 11 IGH and would also like to use a Hebie Chainglider to make maintenance easier.
This combination is not entirely without problems. Hebie has written something about it:

It seems like the standard rear sprocket on a Alfine is dished and must be replaced with a straight sprocket. Although most IGH sprockets (both Shimano and Sram) are dished, I suppose it will be possible to find a straight on. But this will affect the chainline. According to the Alfine
documentation from Shimano it has an chainline of 41.8 mm. But i don't know if this based on the sprocket facing inward or outward. And I don't know what it will be if I replace it with a straight sprocket. Can anyone tell me that?
The Hebie document also says that the chainguard must be removed. I don't suppose that will be a problem, since I don't need to use a chain tensioner and the risk of having the chain fall of is small.
About the chainring: With the Chainglide I will have to choose between a 38t and 42t chainring (also 44 and 48t, but they are too big). Shimano recommends a gear ratio around 1.9. That means 38/20 or 42/22. Since The Alfine only supports sprockets between 18 and 23, I would prefer to start with the 38/20 combination. This will give me more room to change the sprocket if I need to.
Unfortunately it is hard to find a 38t single-crankset in a reasonable quality. It doesn't have to be anything fancy (expensive), just something that doesn't fall apart the first time I use it. And I value durability higher that low weight. Any recommendations?
