I just bought my wife a Carlton Courette Mixte - here's a pic of one:

the one I bought is the same but with a cheap aftermarket seat and horrible straight bars - i'm going to swap these for a brooks and a set of velo orange porteur handlebars
but wasn't sure about the wheels…

It has the original 27 x 1 1/4 inch wheels and need new tubes and tyres, so I didn't know whether to switch to 700c now as i've got to get new tyres and tubes anyway -
it is a real bike on a budget though, so if the effect on ride will be negligible I will stick with the originals as I can get amber wall Panaracers anyway what do you think?

Also - would that swap of wheels affect ride height?
