Or hills. If I lived in NYC,I'd still have my Swobo Otis,but I live in DC. Had a Civia Hyland,the Alfine 8 just didn't cut it. Had a Swobo Dixon,the I9
just did it,but there were days when I just wasn't 100% and missed my 3x9. There are of course options like the Alfine 11,Rohloff,and Schlumpf,but then you're talking $$$,not to mention the weight.

IGH's have def have their uses,it just seems that their fans like to claim they're always the answer. Sure,if you're somewhere flattish or have really bad winter weather,but for hilly and/or temperate climes derailleurs work just as well or better.
