Don't forget that it needs to have two grooves, and you still need the spring clip. If you cannot find a decent replacement part, possibly a plain 6mm rod can be held in place with a piece of PVC tubing in the middle. It won't have the detents, but should work OK by friction alone.
Yeah, that's pretty much what I had in mind. It won't be OEM but it will be functional.
