I'm sure they don't open the box at all. When I got my Moto Messenger, it had missing parts and totally wrong length stem and width bar. They just warehouse the boxes off the boat from China until they get an order and then put it on the truck for shipment to the customer. By contrast, when I bought my Salsa Casseroll from Universal Cycles, they completely assembled and adjusted the bike, then broke it down just enough for shipment in a very oversized box. It took me longer to open and unpack the box than to assemble the bike. The wheels on the BD bike were badly out of true, but the ones from Universal were perfectly true.
