Very good point. I am just having a hard time finding even an entry level road bike without breaking the bank. I am very glad I paid more and got a decent entry level mountain bike that will hold better value aside from the 29er craze now but I can't even seem to find anything close to the range that I paid for that one in a road bike. It will be more of a secondary focus after mountain biking but even entry level of any quality seems extremely high and everything on Craigslist looks like it's straight out of the 70s.
i was in the same spot as you a few months ago. wanted a road bike for a few hundred bucks. i found a giant ocr3 on craigslist for $275 in good shape. i have put a few hundred miles on it and its perfect for what i wanted. stay away from the department store bikes if you can. now im saving up for an expensive bike
