Mounting the brake on the back of the fork has more clearance.. but the side pull actuating arm interferes..

Race Time trial bikes brought a mini V /direct pull in to the market .. cable from side.
empty front of fork, offers a bit smoother airflow..

Of course Drum brake in the hub is fine, just a bit heavy.


Drop bolts were Ok but that was back in the single pivot era, return spring was completely different then.
