Thanks for the tip. I checked to see if there was any rattling between the levers, but the sound seems to be coming from inside the unit. The Versa shifter, BTW, is the only brifter available for Nexus and Alfine IGHs.

I have no idea what the shifter is that you ahve purchased, but I just read that it resembles the Shimano STI lever. If that is the case, then maybe the small rubber piece that sits between the two levers on the "brifter" has fallen off. It happens sometimes with Shimano levers and causes a rattle. The rubber piece I'm talking about is there to actually stop the two levers from touching.
This is on an Ultegra Brifter, but should give you an idea what I'm talking about...
